Our Thoughts

Worthing and Beyond: August 2020 in Review

Worthing and Beyond is an online database of creative people and businesses who support local creativity in Worthing, West Sussex, and the surrounding area (from Southwick to Bognor Regis). It’s one of our side projects here at Huxley. We write profiles for all the Worthing creatives we can find – ranging from artists and illustrators, to street dance companies and musicians – then publish them on this website. Our aim is to connect local creatives with local businesses, in order to facilitate partnerships and creative collaborations without the need for agency fees. ‘Worthing and Beyond: In Review’ is a blog series that provides a monthly overview for Huxley’s readers of what’s new with Worthing and Beyond.

August 2020 was a busy month for Worthing and Beyond!

Instagram:

In August, we launched the official Worthing and Beyond Instagram. We post daily shout-outs over there for the creatives on our site, as well as relevant local news items submitted to us by these creatives. In its first 4 weeks, Worthing and Beyond made 23 posts, including one introductory post at the beginning to introduce themselves, and gained 186 followers. Not bad! Now the page is fully active, with engagement from local artists, regular Instagram stories and a variety of posted content. It’s a great way to discover new artists, illustrators, photographers, authors and more – so give it a follow if you haven’t already. You can find it at @worthingandbeyond:

Local Businesses:

Last month, we began reaching out to local businesses in Worthing town centre to see if they support local creativity. We didn’t know what to expect from this, but we’re thrilled to say that we received a definite positive response from the community. We now have 10 businesses lined up to join the ‘businesses who support local creativity’ section of our website, when this launches in the near future – ranging from vegan shops and cafés, to chocolatiers, to stockists and gallery shops. We’re also planning some blog posts about local businesses and creatives who have already collaborated to accompany this launch – so stay tuned!
